Are you looking for family day’s out this summer? Well if you are based in the North West then Kenyon Hall Farm is the perfect place to take the kids for some summer strawberry picking fun. Some of my fondest childhood memories were in chorleywood, where once a year my parents would take us to the local ‘pick your own’ fields. I can still remember the excitement of seeing the ‘We are open’ signs when the strawberry picking season started. Being one of seven meant only one thing, who could collect the biggest and juiciest strawberries!…needless to say I always won 😉
So you can imagine my excitement when I stumbled across this little gem so close to our photography studio in Worsley, Manchester. It was literally a 10 minute drive on the A580 East Lancs Road towards Warrington. The sun was shining and it was a glorious day. The Farm was very busy full of families which created a lovely atmosphere and surprisingly it did not feel too crowded. The kids enjoyed the play area, with a custom-made climbing frame, bale mountain and vintage tractor to play on. There is also an outdoor picnic area open all year round, where the kids can enjoy eating their fruit in the outdoors, along with some delicious Cheshire dairy ice cream!…They loved it 🙂
Then it was time for the main event, Strawberry picking time! We each collected our punnets and set off far deep into the fields (for the biggest and juiciest strawberries of course) Gabriel was on a mission to fill his punnet the fastest while collecting the finest strawberries in all the land, while Luella and Ophelia opted for the ‘Try before you buy” strategy. It really was quite amazing to see how much fun the kids were having. We could see the family memories being created in front of our eyes while reminiscing our own. Gabriel won the prize for best punnet. Ophelia came second with a little help from her uncle Gary. Her punnet wasn’t quite full but the quality was there, while Luella unashamedly came third with a punnet full of half eaten strawberries. Nevertheless they were all CHAMPIONS 😉
Luckily we had been asked to provide dessert for a friends BBQ that evening so mini strawberry pavlova it was!..It went down a treat 🙂
